Kohl’s Corporation must shell out nearly $1 million to settle lawsuits with four California counties over allegations the company charged customers more than the price advertised on shelves and signs.
Officials with Fresno, Riverside, Shasta, and Santa Cruz counties in California announced that the department store will pay $958,686 to resolve a complaint the company overcharged customers and failed to properly disclose details about its “Kohl’s Cash” program in advertisements, ABC 7 reports.
The settlement stems from a scanner and price inspection by the counties’ Weights & Measures units that found Kohl’s locations in the area charged customers more than the price advertised on shelves and signs inside the stores.
According to the Santa Cruz District Attorney’s office [PDF], Kohl’s cooperated with investigators and has instituted new policies and procedures to ensure pricing accuracy.
In settling the case, Kohl’s does not admit wrongdoing.
