Sports Authority Reportedly Closing All Texas Stores

(Morton Fox)

One of the nation’s largest sports retailers is reportedly getting a bit smaller, as Sports Authority is reportedly set to close several stores, including all locations in Texas.

The Dallas Morning News reports that employees at Sports Authority stores in Texas were informed last week that their stores would be closing.

The company, which operates 460 stores across the country, has 25 stores in Texas.

Earlier this month, Bloomberg reported that Sports Authority was taking steps toward bankruptcy in the face of a looming debt payment.

The retailer, which has an estimated $643 million in debt, was reportedly in talks with lenders on a deal to reorganize its operations in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.

As part of the reorganization, Bloomberg reported that the company was creating a plan to close as many as 200 of its stores.

Consumerist reached out to Sports Authority about the Texas store closings, and what other stores may be affected by closures. We’ll update this post when we hear back.
